So, I'm apparently a sucker, according to some people. I don't particularly care, though.
Last week, I bought a Wii Fit (yes, I was at Target at 8 AM). After work, I hooked it up and started playing/exercising. My take on it:
- It is not remotely nice or polite when giving you your BMI & weight when you first start up. I knew I'd gained post move/quitting smoking, but I'd avoided finding out exactly how much (and I've been avoiding the doctor since my December ER adventures, which I know I shouldn't be doing, but I know I am). The little wii voice that says "that's obese" made me cringe a bit.
- Yoga poses - I really like the way this walks you through doing the poses and gives you feedback while you're doing them. This is really helpful to me - and unlike DVDs I've tried, I like doing these and don't feel pressured to get them exactly right from the start.
- The strength building exercises - a lot of these seem like standards, but again, the feedback and *showing* you how to do them is helpful.
- Aerobic exercises - the Hula games is fun, and a lot tougher than you'd expect. The step aerobics is good - the 3rd level you unlock is kind of boring, but that's workable, if I want to do some work and watch another channel. Jogging - meh, it's running in place. Boxing is cool. Lots of fun, and enough for me to break a sweat.
- Balance games - all tougher than you'd expect, but the soccer heading one is fantastic. I'm terrible at it, so keep getting hit in the face with cleats, but it's still fun.
- Time passes quickly - I've done an hour of exercise (it clocks the time you're actually exercising, rather than just the time playing games) every day for the last five days, and at no point one any of those days was I bored and just passing time until I'd put in my required time.
- I can feel that the yoga/strenght exercises have me working muscles I haven't worked in a long time.
I'm sure I'll find some downsides soon, and I'll be sure to pass them along. For now, I'm happy that I went and got one.

How far from your last home do you live? Why did you move and are you glad you did?
Submitted by Matthew 25.
Approximately 2100 miles - the move took me from Youngstown, OH to Tucson, AZ. I moved for a new job. And I'm still trying to figure out if I'm glad I did - there are things that are very worth it and things I'm not happy about.
And in a public response, that's all the detail I'll go into.
What was the best blog post you wrote this year? What was the best post or blog you read?
I don't post to either of my blogs all that often, but right now, I'd say that this post on gratefulness over at my professional-type blog is the one that stands out. Of course, since I don't blog that often, that may just be the one that stands out to me.
What was the best movie you saw this year?
I don't go to the movies often, but I saw Juno this weekend, and it was really good. I'm not sure that I buy into all the Oscar buzz surrounding it, but it was a sweet, funny movie that drew me in - and it's really easy for me to not be drawn into a movie, so for one to do that means I really liked it.
What was your major or field of study in college? Did you wind up working in that field or using that degree? If not, what field have you wound up in?
Submitted by sneuf.
As an undergrad? History - and I've never used that degree beyond the writing skills I gained. I went into corporate finance pretty quickly, and then did the grad school thing for libraries. And now I do the librarian thing, and history's not even one of my subject specialties - I LIKE working with the business students and faculty.
So, er, no. Not particularly.
I know that feeling. I didn't realize how badly the time difference kicked my butt until I got home. Feel... read more
